The Inter-City Forum on Social Policy (ICFSP) has been researching the impacts of poverty in Alberta for several years. In 2010, member municipalities of ICFSP agreed to play a leadership role in engaging interested stakeholders to promote the need for a comprehensive poverty-reduction plan for Alberta. The goal is to create and help implement a comprehensive plan to prevent, reduce and ultimately eliminate poverty in Alberta. To do this, ICFSP will assist in the exchange and gathering of information from across the province and the nation in order to; promote a provincial poverty reduction strategy, develop policy on poverty reduction, build inter-governmental networks, and advocate for those living in poverty.

Hello everyone: just a short note to let you know what our Poverty Reduction Strategy Initiative has been up to, share some exciting developments and briefly tell you what we will be doing over the next month.

Today marks the launch of the social media part of our campaign for a provincial poverty reduction strategy. With these three new communication tools we hope to contribute to the dialogue and discussion among all of you engaged in this issue (and bring new people into the discussion) about the elements needed in our future strategy  to reduce poverty in Alberta.
We continue to meet government officials, our elected representatives and administration, and have formed a Steering Committee of advisors. We have presented at conferences and meetings around the province and are working hard to connect with all those able to help advance the idea of a provincial strategy.  Working together  we are creating a "made in Alberta" poverty reduction plan.

The two lead organizations of this initiative are the Inter-City Forum on Social Policy and the Family and Community Support Services Association of Alberta. Currently the 19 municipalities which form the ICFSP and the FCSSAA believe a province-wide strategy, in concert with action at the local level, is needed to reduce and ultimately eliminate poverty in Alberta.
